Laser will not accept file

Not very savvy with this type of stuff, my laser will not accept a file from Lightburn or a UDrive. Could the problem be the controller?

Hi @ASW27B

I note your profile says Monport with Ruida and Windows 10

It could be the controller, or about 100 other problems. We’re going to need a lot more information to help you work this out.
What sort of laser is this, the make and model? You mentioned the UDrive, so is this a DSP (Ruida or Trocen etc) type machine? What other transfer methods to do you have? USB cable?
Have you correctly added the laser as a device to LightBurn? Have you installed any required driver files?
It is always helpful to know the LightBurn version and type of computer you are using too.

First thing I’d check is to ensure you’ve included the FTDI driver file when installing LightBurn.

Make sure “Install FTDI serial driver” is checked on install. Simply install LightBurn again if you are not sure, and look out for this pop-up.

If you are also running RDWorks or similar then close that program when trying to use LightBurn.

Once you are properly connected to your laser cutter, the Laser window (bottom right of the LightBurn workspace) will show “Ready”

If you are not connected, it will show “Disconnected” as above.

Dominic, thank you very much, it is a Monport 80, I bought it new about 18 months ago and have used it very little because of my current health problem. I am now back in the saddle so to speak and have resumed tinkering with my laser. In the past all was fine except for mirror adjustment and a few other problems from the factory. I have had no problem in the past, now it is a different story. I can still burn from the file list on the controller, the machine will not accept new files, either from the laptop or a USB stick that I have vectors on. I get a message that the file transfer failed, and that the laser may be busy or paused. I took my laptop to a friend’s house and the same file would transfer to his laser just fine. I also bought a new USB to USB cable and it made no difference. Thanks for reaching out. Bob

Dominic, I do show the disconnected notice on my laser window

I read that when the controller memory is full, really strange things happen. The proposed solution was “Delete come of the files in the controller.”
