Lightburn is detecting my printer/laser. the fire button will operate, it has a fine red border when in the fire position, but it will not fire the laser. the laser will not operate when framing or when a program is actioned. If I connect the printer / laser to ponterface and enter M106 the laser fires M107 shuts it down again. Why will light burn not fire the laser? If a program is started the print head moves normally, everything works except for the laser firing? Help please!
Did you enable the laser in the ‘Edit → Device Setup’?
This is off, since it’s being used as a router…
You can frame, I think with ‘Shift click’ on frame… it’s been a while…
I think the ‘s value max’ should be 1000.
What are your setup values for the configuration?
Especially $30 - $31
:
When the fire button is pressed 0 volts measured to the laser PWM. Enter M106 from ponterface 17.3 Volts measured.
Not failure with this term…
where do i find $30 & $31 ?
These are in the ‘console’ which is a tab in the cut/layer window when the machine boots. They are displayed by the ‘numbers’.
They will look something like
$0=10
$1=25
$2=0
$3=0
$4=0
$5=0
$6=0
$10=0
$11=1.000
$12=0.002
$13=0
$20=1
$21=1
$22=1
.
.
.
$121=20000.000
$122=50.000
$130=300.000
$131=180.000
$132=45.000
I find it much easier to view/change the values in the Lightburn gui. This will allow you to change them and re-write them back to the controller. It also allows you to save the current controller configuration so you 1) have a backup, 2) save multiple different configurations, such as with/without a rotary.
‘Edit → Machine Settings’
I think you would be wise to check out the Lightburn Grbl Setup and Coordinate and Job Origin.
These values are specified there.
Good luck…
Does this apply to Marlin?
everything worked fine before mother board change. now the only that wont work is the laser firing?
That’s because you probably haven’t configured it properly.
If it’s not supported, then Lightburn will not give you the option. This type of configuration is needed, so I’m sure the Marlin will have it or something similar. As far as I know it’s a grbl machine?
Connect up and go look…
Thanks Jack, I get some setting but they are not $ settings, they are echo settings? I will have to do some more research… Thanks again
Go to the ‘edit → machine settings’ and tell me what you get…
Screen shot…
Is that everything in the machine settings? Can’t scroll down or?
There should be some kind of laser control I would think…
You might have to wait until someone with a Marlin comes along. I’m sure they’ll be there.
99.9% of these issues are software configuration, so hang in there…
Don’t know if you can ‘move’ your post to the ‘marlin’ area
I did seem to think it was a software issue? Everything worked before the board change nothing is different, the laser just wont fire from light burn… Frustrated! Thanks again
Of course you are. Welcome to the computers + machines…You changed it’s brains, give it a chance…
‘Search’ the marlin area and see if you hit on anything…
Will do… Cheers Jack
Take care and good luck…
To enable firing with the frame operation you need to hold the shift key as you press the frame button. This will allow for framing with the laser on.
