Hi there,
I am running Lightburn 1.0.04 and when I try to import/load a PDF, nothing appears to happen??? I can successfully open any graphic based files etc, but PDF’s fail. Funny enough, previously opened PDF’s (when using an older version of Lightburn, before the 1.0.04 update) seem to open successfully???
Any clues?
Hi RalphU,
Thanks for the quick uptake.
The short answer to that is, I don’t know. The file was created by scanning a page using my printer/scanner which then saved it as a PDF. Adobe opens the file without any problems.
Not sure if that is of any help.
Silly question though, isn’t Lightburn supposed to be able to open PDF’s? I realise changing my scan to a JPG will probably work, but doesn’t this highlight an issue?
It will, and it should, but PDFs are insanely complex, and support for the various content within them is done ‘on demand’ as we encounter specific features in the wild. If you email the file to support@lightburnsoftware.com I can have a look at what’s in it and why it’s not opening as expected.
Sometimes adding support for new features also has unexpected side effects - there have been times where I’ve inadvertently broken something that did previously work, so that’s certainly possible here too.
Please post the PDF file for review (or send to support@lightburnsoftware if private, and include a link to this post for context), show what the Import and Open dialogs look like and explain the exact steps and observations you are having. We are trying to duplicate the issue here, and I am unable to reproduce the same issue based on what you have shared. I am able to import and open PDF’s that contain both raster and vector data.
Thanks for the response.
I will email the offending PDF and see if it does the same to you, or maybe there is something wrong with my setup.
I’ll send it shortly.
Thanks all that have responded. Appreciate the assists.
To offer completeness, helping others, here is what we found.
(from our email response)
This is an odd file - it was created with something that licenses a PDF library from a company called Lead Tools, and their PDF page objects have a preceding “empty” character that was confusing my parser. I’ve added code to handle this, which will be in the next release.
