Been using X-Carve for several years with V-Carve Desktop, using Picsender to send the Gcode. Comfortable using them.
Just got my JTech 7w laser. Got it all installed and hooked up. I have been watching many videos but have not seen how this actually works. I will be getting Lightburn in the next couple days.
When running Lightburn to run the laser on the X-Carve, I would guess the Laser controller needs to be on and the X-Carve controller?
Picsender is not needed for the laser?
Currently, I do my designing on my desktop computer in my office. I then transfer the gcode via jump drive to my shop laptop attached to my X-Carve.
Looking at all the videos, when setting up Lightburn for the first time I should be connected to the Laser. (Is that with everything turned on?)
How do I get those settings from the laptop to my desktop for design?
I just found the document section of the forum. Will be digging into that this weekend.
This isn’t strictly necessary but can make it easier if the controller is properly detected. Paradoxically, if auto-detection doesn’t work or gets it wrong this can actually create work for you.
The reality is that there’s isn’t a whole lot to defining a device:
controller type
work area
origin location
enable/disable auto-home
correct S Value Max setting based on value of $30 in controller
I’m not familiar with Picsender but if it’s a typical g-code sender then no, this wouldn’t be strictly necessary although it could also be used in the workflow.
Ideally you would leave LightBurn directly connected to the machine so that it controls the machine directly. However, you can generate g-code from LightBurn and have it sent from any g-code sender.
You can export prefs from laptop to desktop or just set both up independently.
