Lightburn Bridge vs TP-link Router

I was thinking of getting the lightburn bridge to connect my laser cutter to my computer network, then I realized that I already had a spare router, and was wondering if I could use that instead, configuring it as a repeater for my existing wifi network and connecting it with ethernet cable to my Ruida controller. Is there something the Bridge does that is different than a router?

This is a ‘bridge’ configuration and I ran this way for quite a while…

In this instance both are acting as a ‘bridge’…

The Ruida ‘talks’ via UDP, which is a subset of the tcp/ip protocol and has no error control and is rather ‘bare bones’…

The Lightburn bridge has a layer of software specifically for the Ruida and handles the communications for it specifically…

I had a Pi laying around and it’s definitely much more robust… Use the Pi based Lightburn bridge. The software is there for free, all you need is the Pi.

If you don’t have the hardware handy, use the tplink for a bridge until you get the Pi up and running…

Good luck
