Lightburn or Millmage

Should I buy MillMage instead of Lightburn?
Is the Millmage software/platform capable of doing the same things as I use Lightburn (Gcode) now?

Lightburn: Used for 2D laser control, has a wonderful development environment.
MillMage: Used for 2.5D CNC milling machines, Has a wonderful development environment, looks like Lightburn but it is not.

You can SORT OF control both machines with the other software, but that is like using a flat blade screwdriver for a chisel. Choose the right tool for the right application.

They share the same GUI, which does confuse people, but they are entirely different applications. Why not buy both? Lightburn feeds my 3 Sculpfun lasers and MillMage feeds my Sainsmart 3018 Pro table top CNC mill.

That depends.

  • Do you have a laser, or a CNC machine?
  • Is your primary use of the machine for laser engraving or CNC milling?

If you primarily want to do laser engraving, MillMage doesn’t support that at all yet.

So, millmage will eventually support laser hopefully?

One program to rule them all.

At my age, it is better to have two so I will know which one I am working in.

For me I would love to be able to just tab over to CNC Routing, Laser cutting, Plasma Cutting and Dragknives. An openbuilds but all in one.
