Hi there. I bought my S10 Pro and Rotary R3 last year and got pretty good at wood, glass, painted tumbler work. Last week I bought a new laptop and was not able to retrieve the output settings from my old laptop. The new computer is running Windows 11, I believe the old one was using Windows 10.
Installed Lightburn, pulled in my old files (with same output settings as before) but now I can’t cut thru the paint on the tumblers with those settings. For example, I was getting fast shiny cuts to the metal using 250 in/min @ 100% power and 250 DPI (.004 in) increments. Now I have to reduce the speed to 125 in/min @100% power and 500 DPI (.002 in) increments. This takes a previous 10 min job to 30+ min. Online or offline I get the same results.
A friend uses Laser GRBL so we ran a couple gc files thru that software and it cut to the metal with my original settings. I believe that confirms the machine is operating correctly. I don’t recall making any changes to the output settings that would not be the same as “out of the box” Lightburn settings. Lightburn did not recognize my machine at startup (again) so I selected on of the GRBL configurations and also downloaded same CH340 driver as before.
Has anyone had issues with Windows 11 interfering with your output settings or causing problems as described above? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Michael
I can say with almost absolute certainly that Win11 has nothing to do with the issue.
What is preventing you from accessing your old machine? The most straightforward thing would be for you to backup your old settings and restore them.
If you cannot, can you check the value of S Value Max in Edit->Device Settings? What is it? Compare that against the value of $30 in Edit->Machine Settings. If they do not match, change S Value Max to the value found in $30.
The other thing to review, make absolutely certain that the units you’re using now are indeed the same units that you used earlier. Don’t dismiss this as this is a very common issue and easily overlooked.
Thanks berainlb…this totally fixed the problem. Greatly appreciate your assistance!!!
