Did the test box go where you were expecting it to by measurement?
If so, clearly the camera is not aligned.
no i was expecting to be in the center to be honest
Where is it? Looks center in picture. I canāt read the dimensions and donāt know where you told it to be.
its centered left to right but vertical its off i think i may have itā¦ getting to make a jig will update when done
Once you make a fixture, or jig, you have to make sure it goes into the exact same location every time. You are a machinist, so this you know.
Now, you will be aligning the Lightburn toolpath (drawing) to the fixture.
- Jog the laser, Fire button on, to a known reference point in your fixture. Select a corner, center, or other known point.
- Click on the Show Last Position button a few times to locate the little red cross.
- Select, or Group, everything in your drawing and move that known reference point so it is right on top of the red cross.
- You now have the fixture, laser, and drawing all aligned. think of it as a boresight alignment.
- Save the Lightburn file as a Master copy.
- Save the same file as a Working copy.
- Step #5 is in case you screw up the file you made in Step #6.
- You can now add or update text or images to the file while retaining the original layout of the fixture.
I did this for my iCube machine and have 5 fixtures so far. For my S30 and SF-A9, I just use the positioning method above (#1 - #3) to align glass, bottle, and mug fixtures. If I did production work, I would design a fixture holder like I did for the iCube.
Thank for explanation i will try this approach tomorrow i am off till monday. Still not sure it right i cut a business card jig again. Did not move anything using a razor knife i pulled out the cut pieces and made sure jig was was fastened dowm and when i added my image and laser ed it the image was to far right still on card but not centered as in the lightburn screen. Thanks for your help Frank
Itās possible thereās an issue with the calibration process.
- What sorts of scores were you getting in the lens calibration?
- When you did the camera alignment, did you burn fresh targets and align the laser to the targets without moving the targets in any way?
- Is the camera situated in such a way that itās rigidly mounted so as the relationship of the position and orientation of the camera is fixed to the focal plane of the laser?
- Are you ever moving the laser head by hand post homing process completion?
Be aware that the laser workspace is NOT the same as the mechanics suggest. You need to draw a square of the maximum workspace size onto a waste board to see your real workspace. Do not rely on the distances to the frame etc. Since the position of the laser diode is in front of the x-axis, the laser workspace will always be moved to the front beam.
It might even be shifted left-right due to the position of the limit switches.
Rough example:
In the .2 and .3 on the camera and i was moving by hand some but after reading here ive stop. Yes i did as you can see in several pics up. Yes the camera is mounted solid thanks for all the help
My machine has the Y axis limit switch on the front right of the machine by the key not sure where the X is. I have not bothered to look
If you have the Sculpfun SF-A9, it has limit switches on all axis ends (X-, X+ and Y-, Y+). Your laser should home to front-left.
The x-axis is where the head is moving on (left-right).
Ok thanks yes i have the sf-a9
Still not lining up correctly not sure whats going on. Been following @MikeyH suggestions. It is better but not there yet.
