I recently purchased a Longer 5W laser and installed LightBurn on my MacBook to use it. The laser only registers a quarter of the workplace. My laser should have a workplace of 400mm x 400mm and that’s what I have my device set to. Is there a setting I am missing that needs to be adjusted?
Please post a screenshot (not a cell phone pic) of your entire Lightburn screen with your project loaded and the Cuts/Layers Panel and Laser Panel visible. Also post a screenshot of the Settings Window (Gears icon) with the Units and Grids tab visible and post a screenshot of the Device Settings Window (Wrench and Screwdriver icon). Finally, type $$ in the console window and press enter key. Copy and paste entire output of that window.

Does the Longer have limit switches? Otherwise, you can’t use homing and can’t use absolute coordinates for job placement. Your console output shows that you are running into negative coordinates.
The rest of your settings look ok on a first glance.
It appears that your machine doesn’t have limit switches so it sets the 0,0 position wherever the laser head is located when you turn it on. I recommend always moving the laser to the L.F. corner before starting. That will make your coordinates align with the work grid.
I appreciate all the feedback. I turned off my machine, set the laser to the front left corner, and set the “Start From” position on the light burn software to User origin and it still is not registering the whole workspace. It seems as though it thinks the workspace is smaller than it actual is. The screenshot with the cat is how large I would like the image to be. When I click “frame” the lasers frame is roughly the size of the second screenshot I posted for reference. Shouldn’t the image I am trying to engrave take up the majority of the workspace? Seems like it is only doing a small portion of it.

This might describe what I’m referring to better. Here is a picture of a project I tried to test according to LightBurn and a picture of what the laser actual cut. It seems as though the proportions and scaling is off.
I missed it on my initial look through your settings. It wasn’t until you posted the actual output that I knew what you were describing and what to look for.
In console type $100=80 hit Enter
then $101=80 hit enter.
Then try to engrave a 100mm square in the center of your workspace then check the dimensions of it. Report your results.
Thank you so much!!! I couldn’t find a single video online explaining what I needed to do to fix this issue! It worked! Do you mind explaining what the $100=80 and $101=80 mean for future reference?
Those settings are the steps per mm of your stepper motors. Most diode lasers are using motors that run at 80. When I saw your image was twice as wide as high I took another look at those settings. I was initially looking for incorrect work area size, but it was correct.
Ah ok. When I bought the machine I followed all the steps according to the manual. At first I thought it may be a MacBook issue but saw multiple users online running LightBurn with iOS. Thanks again for the help! I really appreciate it.
