Longer 5w laser stuck in Hard limit! mode

Lightburn will not recognize my laser because it’s stuck in Hard Limit! mode.
Hard limit! just keep popping up on the Longer screen and I can’t get past that.
Just got the laser and trying to set it up with no luck.
No limit switches installed on the laser but I ordered a pair from Amazon.
Not sure it that will help or not.
Thank you.

Is this the model of your machine?

This is not a lightburn issue. First, you have to bring your machine into a normal state.
You have to acknowledge the alarm on the touch screen I suppose.
Where is located the head at the moment? against the frame?
Have tried to move the head manually (machine OFF) and then switching it ON?

The manual on line is very sparse.

A more detailed manual is said to ben on the TF card in your machine.

I can’t get past this warning.
Every time I press yes it just pops up again and again and again.
It is the Longer 5w 10w.
I can move the laser manually and I have put it in many different positions and restarted them machine over and over again with no luck.
And I have tried bottom left position over and over also.

I suppose the switch is broken. Can you show us the limit switch? can you feel it clicking?
A measure with a multimeter (continuity test) would be in order.

I don’t have limit switches installed yet. I ordered a set and they will be here tomorrow.

so your machine is sold without limit switches and you want to add limit switches?

This video shows it requires a firmware update.

Got an idea
Maybe the error you get is because you’ve already install this firmware! And as it doesn’t find actual limit switches, it bugs.

Here a 48 pages documentation: https://images.thdstatic.com/catalog/pdfImages/14/14d78c90-d6a0-4cfb-8185-1a3fac336487.pdf

"The position of the laser module is assumed to be the home position by default when powered on. So the engraver will trigger the alarm 2 or hard limit error if the laser head is moved in the X or Y negative direction at this time. "

Yes the longer laser engraver does not come with limit switches. I’ve installed them and I’ve installed the latest firmware update.
I can get my laser to go into the Y coordinates but not x coordinates that’s when the error comes up every time.

The hard limit warning only comes on when I move it to the right the Y+ postion.
When I move it to the Y- position it just keeps crashing into the rail.

A troubleshoot sequence to try:

  • 1 Unplug your laser power and USB.

  • 2 Disable Auto-home in Lightburn

  • 3 Jog your laser by hand to the lower left.

  • 4 Connect everything back.

  • 5 Goto Lightburn Move window, jog the laser with the arrows click 6 times the right arrow and 6 times the up arrow then 3 times the left arrow and 3 times the down arrow

Check for correct moves right arrow to right, up arrow to up and so on.
    .
If this guide works fine try swapping your new X and Y switches, and check them with a multimeter.
    Report back with your findings.

Thank you. I will try all that when I get home later. But I had this problem before I installed the limit switches. Also the limit switches are exactly the same so I don’t know if switching them around will help any. But I’m willing to try anything at this point.

The upgraded firmware was installed before the limit switches but I had this problem already before I install the limit switches and with the new firmware already installed.

Do I have to put in specific settings in lightburn for my specific engraver?

As a start ser X steps per mm ($100) to 80 and Hard limits ($21) to True.
