Looking for a few people to be beta testers for Nestomatic, a browser nesting tool I built for SVG, DXF, and AI files.
perfect for laser cutting, reduce waste per sheet, run a real job and share your experience, issues and opinions.
No install. An invite turns on full Maker Tier while we’re in beta, and you don’t pay. I will be giving away annual subscription of Maker as a thank you, to those who participate the most.
Hi Adam, I see you’re new here, so welcome. I’m not sure how other moderators will feel about your post promoting a (mostly) paid tool, but I had a look anyway, and will comment with initial thoughts.
-The free tier feels heavily restricted - rotation limited to 90deg steps, sheets capped at 610x 610 mm, 100 parts on one sheet, and you need to sign in to export, with 5 exports plus one a week. My machine is bigger than 610 x 610 mm, so I couldn’t export anything useful.
-I ran the same nesting tests I posted here and it only did well in the simplest one compared to our nesting and I suspect the rotation limit was most of the reason.
-Parts exported from LightBurn are very hard to see in Nestomatic (great name and logo, BTW). LightBurn exports SVG strokes as 0.05 mm hairlines and Nestomatic seems to draw them at that width, so they almost disappear on screen.
The nesting landscape seems to changed a lot recently, jaguar-rs is nesting engine we now have builtin and the same author provides the seriously capable and freely available nesting app Sparrow.
In summary, the app looks like it has a lot of potentially good features, but honestly the free tier is far too limited to compete with other free tools.
When I first read this, I thought “browser based”, but then realized my files would have to be uploaded to your server to be processed. I read nothing about how those files would be treated or respected. Not seeing full disclosure made me uncomfortable.
And ad @NicholasL already said, Lightburn has a pretty capable nesting tool already.
Thanks for the reveal and good luck with your venture.
