Loose MOPA Laser Head – Return or Easy Fix?

I recently purchased a new MOPA laser, but I noticed that the head is loose and moves around. When I try to tighten it by turning, it ends up misaligned. Should I return the entire unit, or is there an easy way to fix this? Thank you!

When you get a new machine, it’s always wise to contact the vendor to ensure they know about the issue. Unless you’re fluent in Mandarin Chinese, it might take a couple e-mails to communicate correctly with them, so be patient.

Most vendors are in China, so it’s a 24hour turn around for email.

It would not be good to advise you to do something, you do it and have the vendor tell you that was a mistake, then claim it’s your problem. If anyone has to pay for it to be fixed/replaced, the vendor should take credit for it.

If they dump you, that’s different.

I don’t know what you mean by mis-aligned when you tighten it up… can you explain it better to this idiot and maybe I (we) can be more helpful?

Hi here a link to a YouTube video, you will see the problem !https://youtube.com/shorts/ExawakD2D_s?feature=share

I haven’t taken mine apart that far. Those two parts were already assembled…

I thought the ring around it held it in place?

That tube also has mounts in a similar way on the galvo end.

:smiley_cat:

Yes everything was assembled, every screw are tight…

I think you’ll have to wait for others that have these and have disassembed them. Of course maybe you’ll hear from OMTech about it. Since I haven’t taken one apart, I can’t offer much insight into your issue.

I’d keep pressure on OMTech… usually squeaky wheels get greased quicker

:smiley_cat:

Thats crazy.
Must have been the Friday night QC crew that sent that out the door.

I was hoping for a better suggestion than I had. :face_with_spiral_eyes:

I’d make a bee line back to OMTech and see what they say. It has to be adjustable somehow.

:smiley_cat:

Hmm. My concern would be that, AFAIK, the mark7.cfg file contains calibrations specific to YOUR machine.

If they didn’t have the head on tight when the calibrations were performed, the mark7.cfg file might not have valid calibrations in it

I bought a used 80w mops from OM tech and have had good service from tech support-
they are US based techs as far as I can tell. I had a high pitched sound from the galvo head and they asked for a video and they diagnosed it.
