Lowering deceleration speed / distance for each pass when engraving

Hey all!
I have several lasers, and all but My big 5x10 flat bed engrave quite quickly. the head zips back and forth with incredible speed.
On My big one, when engraving, the head needs about 4x the distance of the actual engraving to decelerate, then change direction. this is a major pain. it’s just your standard laser head with mirror, so it’s not like it’s heavy or anything.
I’ve tried methodically changing every speed I could in machine settings, but I cannot get it to rapidly change direction.
Could anyone point me to the settings necessary to make it change direction without requiring insane amounts of over-shoot distance on each side of the image?

Thanks so much!

What speeds and acceleration are beyond the bounds of sanity here?
