Mac OS Mojave to Mini Gerbil to K40 laser

In the consul window, I am getting
On or near line 0:
Errror:9

The only button that seems to move the servos X and Y is the home button, why can I move the laser head around with the move commands, up-and-down arrows?

And what devices should I be using for the Mini Gerbil?
(Gerbil(GRBL) This is the one I’m using now and obviously it’s not working. If you can help me out great.

Here is the new alarm code I am getting if you can help great.

Error messages: https://github.com/gnea/grbl/wiki/Grbl-v1.1-Interface#grbl-response-messages

Error 9 means you have an alarm state and GRBL is not accepting GCode until it’s resolved. The alarm state is ALARM:8, a homing failure, shown immediately at the top when it tried to home. (Google grbl alarm 8 or grbl error 9 - it’s not hard to find what these mean).

So most likely your machine is trying to home and failing to do so, either because it is not properly configured somehow, or the switches aren’t wired correctly. I’m not familiar with how the Gerbil is wired, so I would check with Awesome Tech for guidance there.
