Midge mark 2 - a small r/c aeroplane

after making a 1m discus launch glider (the bug), i got the itch to miniaturise, and the midge was created - a 75cm span r/c glider

i broke it (a bit), and i needed to re-do the battery pod, having got the initial design to improve upon

more details here

but it now looks like this :

Hey Ashley!

That’s a sweet little DLG!

I’ve been reading your posts on RCgroups and found them incredibly valuable advice!
I’m new to the hobby and absolutely stoked about small, light DLGs too.

For my first build, I went for a pre-lasered kit :face_with_hand_over_mouth: of the PUG. It came out well, but I am looking for even more float.

The balsa I ordered arrived today and the plan is to build a Lightningbug with AG37 airfoils.

it makes me happy to see people get excited by this hobby - scratch building is pretty much a dying art, and gliders are just such a pure form of flight

quite apart from the fun of design and construction, they are a dynamic 3-d sculpture that continues to entertain even more after the creation is “completed” - give or take repairs, rebuilds, more planes…

feel free to ask any questions over at rc groups, but the bug build in my blog is pretty comprehensive and should give you most of the info required to get the max performance by adding some simple modifications to the original design
