Testing trial version, setup CNC 835mm X and Y travel. used Shapeoko 4 I can set zero for workpiece and do a frame of the object and it does as expected. When I go to run the project the CNC moves all the way to the front and crashes. I have moved the zero set point from right rear. left rear (that did not allow the movement correctly on workpiece when jogging) to front left. (that allowed correct jogging to any location on workpiece. but crashes if I run the job. Any ideas what I need to change. Thank you. I emailed support but no response so far.
This post gives me PTSD. Spent hours trying to get things to shift from cnc to laser and back. Sorry I canāt help here. Setting in new appointment with my mental health counsler.
Here we go againā¦![]()
In this order:
- Make sure there are no G54 offsets.
- Establish the correct corner for the Home position. Typically it is the front-left corner, but may be different for the Shapeoko.
- Confirm Home travel directions go to that corner.
- Confirm Jog can move away from that corner and back without alarms or errors..
- Home the machine (tell us which corner that is).
- Do not change the current Origin position.
- Screen snapshot (SHFT+WinKey+S) the Move window and put it in a Reply.
Then we can see if any adjustments to the coordinate system need to be made.
@Dskall is not the only one that has nightmares about this. ![]()
Correct me if Iām wrong but looking back on this nightmare I think that some changes seemed to require a reset to take effect.
Seemed I would make a change that didnāt seem to work, then make another change, which lead me into a hopeless mental spiral.
When I get back home I will give this a try
As far as I know GRBL parameter changes are immediate. Not sure about FluidNC, Smoothieware, or the other controllers.
If you look at the Preview (Alt+P) do you see the problematic movement?
Colin, Workspace I set to see where things are. 32"x32" Front left corner should be edge of material for this test. If I jogged diagonal down left the router is actually off the possible table.
If I were to try and frame it would crash the router in the back right corner. Back Right corner is home for the router and front left corner should be edge of workpiece. Not sure what I have wrong.
In the picture I jogged down left aprox 8"
I am really starting to understand why. This is driving me nuts.
I can give you the name of my therapist if you like.
Bases on your image, it is up and right 8". In other words, X8 and Y8., both positive moves.
If your spindle is at that same corner as the green square when you Home the machine, then try setting the 0,0 (second image) to the bottom left square. If that is not a fix, then it is easy to switch it back.
OK, I am getting somewhere. I unchecked the āHas tool Length Probeā and that seems to have stopped the crashing. Ran a test run without the Z depth and router turned off. baby steps. but it was a success. Tomorrow I will run a real test but looking much better now. Thank you everyone for your help and therapy.
Please let us know how it goes - āHas tool length probeā being unchecked is interesting, Iād be curious to see what you have set in Custom GCode for the tool length probe.
