Misaligned cut and engrave

I make wooden medals and sometimes something goes wrong with a file I’ve used many times before. I reuse and modify the same file and I change text etc. The problem is that despite appearing ok in preview, when it engraves or cuts, certain parts get misaligned. The photo shows the latest example. The good one shown was created after I picked another file and modified that. Given that the job runs perfectly ok with another file it’s clearly not the laser machine itself. In fact it works very well other than this occasional clitch.

It’s my DIY 80W machine running a Ruida RDC644XG controller. Lightburn version 0.9.16

Any ideas? Is it simply a file that gets corrupted somehow?

I’ve had this happen more than once and It’s strange. I doubt that it is a machine issue e.g. with belts or missing motor steps as other files work fine. Maybe the file becomes corrupt somehow but that would be an odd thing. Is it possible that it is a Lightburn issue?
