You appear to be running this image negated, which means that the black parts will be converted to white, and the white parts converted to black.
Importantly, transparent parts will be ignored. Since the background of the image is transparent, it’s not being inverted. The black rifles get converted to white, which means the laser won’t run there, so that’s why it looks like they’re being omitted.
Don’t negate the image and it will look as you expect.
Death’s head needs a bit of post-processing, I want to divide the image into several layers to achieve different shades of color. (after tracing!)
If you want to engrave it as an image you need to post process as Oz writes or find a conversion solution.

This is your image with the transparent background removed. If you negate this one it’ll work as expected, but you’ll likely want to put a mask around it to get rid of the rectangle.
