Monport 40 homing issue for very green newby

Last step in setting up machine and the dang thing won’t Home properly. When i select home it makes a movement but very small and not towards where I need it to go. here is the error…
Homing fail. Cycle failed to clear limit switch when pulling off. Try increasing pull-off setting or check wiring.

I would check all wiring for loose connections. I had a similar problem.

That tells you the limit switches are active when they should not be, assuming the gantry & laser head are not up against the switch positions.

The controller sees the active switches and moves the axis in the direction that should deactivate them, but the switches don’t behave as expected, so the controller shuts down to avoid breaking anything.

As @Dskall suggests, make sure the limit switches are wired correctly and that the wiring doesn’t have any breaks / shorts / problems. Some folks have found wires crushed between two metallic brackets, which causes obvious problems.

All that should already be done if you bought what an “assembled and tested” machine, but (all?) manufacturers seem to regard “Quality Control” as a bullet item rather than a goal. While you’re checking the switches, assume nothing and verify everything.
