Monport Laser Showing Disconnected on Mac

I have just got a Monport Pro 30w Fire - I have diligently followed the instructions on setting up Lightburn for the Monport, including using the EZCad Config file.

But after all of that I cannot get the machine to be seen by LB.

I have checked my ports. In system information the laser is seen under one of the USB3.1 ports as ‘SEA-LASER’

I have tried different cable, restarting the laser and Mac in various combinations…

I even tried another Mac but to no avail.

Any clues would be super helpful. I am at my wits end trying to get the two to connect.

Thanks

I don’t use my mac, so I won’t be of much help, but maybe @thelmuth can assist in getting you connected…

Hang in there

I don’t have a fiber so not sure about setup. If it’s seen by the OS, it should connect. Have you followed these docs including importing the markcfg7 file?

He has a Mac, so I was wondering if it needed a 2.0 usb connection. I think he advised it’s showing up as SEA .. something…

He seems to have a connection to the other fiber machine.

Not sure what to advise. Maybe @Rick can help.

I think the fact that it’s showing up is good. Usually, if they don’t show up, that’s when I advise going through a “USB 2.0 dumb hub”.

Thanks for helping all!

It is showing up in system, under whichever USB port it is plugged in to. I tried them all thinking it might need to be a specific one.

Also followed those instructions and used the markcfg7 file. That all went smooth, but on the main Lightburn screen with the device selected it just says ‘disconnected’ and ‘waiting for connection’ at the bottom.

I did also try a dumb hub and various other cables and a-c converters.

I was wondering if it might be a machine issue. It is fresh out of the box so I would really hope not but I just can’t imagine a reason it can’t be ‘seen’

It’s entirely possible. I’ve heard Monport is not very forthcoming with their tech support.

This implies that your laser is a SEACad device but you’re treating it as an EZCAD2 device. Are you absolutely certain your laser is EZCAD2/JCZFiber?

If not, I suggest configuring as SEACad and importing BslCAD.cfg or LmcPar.cfg file as described in documentation and then retesting connection.

Thanks for all of your help! In the end Monport were quite helpful and forwarded some further documentation. You are right the laser was indeed not to be set up as JCZFiber as per original instructions.

After setting up as BSLFiber we got connection and everything is now working smoothly!

Hopefully this thread will prove useful to others in the future,
Thanks again for the super helpful replies
