Monport Mopa Laser & Windows 11

Hi,

I’m new to the forum and to the laser world.

I just received my Monport MOPA 60W (YXF60) and I can’t install the Cypress drivers (supplied by the manufacturer) on my Windows 11 computer. I’ve tried several times but it doesn’t work, but it works on a Windows 10 computer.

The driver is CypressDriverInstaller 1.0.1.67

I’ve contacted Monport support but I don’t think they understand the problem and keep referring me to the manual.
The laser works with a BSL motherboard, but I don’t know any more about it.

I’m now wondering if anyone has managed to use this driver on W11?

Thanks in advance,
Greg

Congratulations and welcome.
It seems the driver you have only work with <= Win10.

Do you have more info? like pictures of your controller?

Hello Parsec,

I found the same thing when looking at the driver installation files.

I don’t have any more information about the motherboard and I’m afraid of doing something wrong by opening the machine to see.
I’ve sent an e-mail to Monport support to get more details.

A few questions:

  • 1.With laser connected and powered ON when you insert / remove the USB plug does Windows make a sound?
    1. Does your laser appears in Device Manager? If so perhaps you could try updating the driver trough Windows to check a newer version or trough Windows Update > optional updates

e.g.:

Yes, the usb is detected when I plug in my usb cable, but the pre-peripheral is not recognized. I just have an unknown peripheral. I tried to force the detection of the drivers by pointing to the Cypress installation folder, but it doesn’t find anything.

Maybe I should do a clean install and try again. I may have another conflicting driver.

I got an answer from Monport support on my motherboard:

“The full name of BSL motherboard is Basiliang Laser Marking Card”

and that’s all !

  1. Do you have a in the TF Media Card a BSLApp that might install drivers?
  2. On Win 10 check for Hardware Ids that may help identifying the controller.

1 Yes i tried yesterdaiy to bownload (here: eng.basiliang.com/article/detail-6077955.html) but I didn’t manage to download it.

2 Is it in french on my W10 computer, but i thinh is it “Hardware Ids”

I also found this driver: oem85.inf

On my W11 computer I couldn’t find it in C:\Windows\INF. I added it and tried to install it but it’s doesn’t work and the driver still undetected

I found the problem.

It was simple, but I missed it.
The problem is with the USB cable. With a 1m cable it works, 2m it works, 3m and more it doesn’t work.

The instructions say :
Note: The computer should not be placed more than 15 feet (4.5 meters) from the laser marker to avoid possible signal interference

So there’s normally leeway.
I may have a machine that produces interference, I’ll try to unplug everything to check.

Many people find this… Thanks for posting.

The USB cable has defined lengths and/or standards for the cable type.

Hi !

Thanks for your feedback jkwilborn. But I have to admit that I’m a bit overwhelmed by it all.

I got a new email from Monport:

As per our technicians’ feedback, the longer the USB cable is, the weaker the signal transmission becomes.
Using a 3m cable may lead to a line error, which is likely causing the issue you’re experiencing.
We recommend using a shorter, high-quality cable (preferably 2m or less) to ensure stable communication with the machine.

So, contrary to the instructions, it’s not possible to use a cable longer than 2m. I’ve just ordered a cable extension with a signal amplifier to see if it works. :crossed_fingers:

Hi everyone!

I finally found a solution that seems to work well after a few tries and a 5h engraving.

I bought a USB 2.0 extension cable with a signal amplifier. The minimum length is 5m but it still works.

I hope this helps
