Monport not firing

Hi. I am a newbie. Just purchased last month and this is the first time I’m using it. When I send a program and hit start the laser moves but it doesn’t fire. I’m not sure what I’m doing wrong

The most likely cause is a mismatch between $30 in the Machine Settings and S value max in Device Settings.

Most often the $30 = 1000 but it’s good to check.
It doesn’t really matter if it’s 255 or 1000 or even 10000 as long as the two numbers agree.

From the Console window, please request the Machine Settings by typing the following:
$$
then press return.

You’re welcome to copy and paste those values into a reply here if you like.

When you click Edit, click Device Settings and this Window should pop up.

Set this number to the number that was in $30 in the Settings report.

If this doesn’t solve it, capture this screen like I did and upload the pic into your reply as well so we can examine this further.

Either way, please let us know if it addresses the obstacle.

Edit: $30 not $32

$31 should be 1

What power/speed are you attempting?

A screen shot is preferred, most systems have software to do that…

Can you post a shot of the artwork, especially the layer settings.

Re: $31=50

Monport uses a Grbl controller for its k40 variant.
$31=50 may represent minimum PWM.

Let’s not enable the test fire button until we have the model number or see the $130 series settings.

Uploading: image.jpg…

You didn’t give it enough time to upload…

:smile_cat:

Have you tried a higher power level… yours should fire at 20%, but some don’t.

It would be nice to have the layer up so we can see your settings…

I seriously doubt that your machine will run 2000mm/s…?

:smile_cat:

Looks like mm/min in that corner.
Max rates are set for 8000mm/min.

Careful. I don’t know if the manual was clear about the laser.
The light is infrared and you won’t be able to see it.

I don’t know how the safety interrupts are set. You may need cooling water or something else running to enable it.

Jack could be right about the 20% power level not firing. It’s probably on the edge.
I wouldn’t advise more without the instruction manual.

$13 is set to zero… is that not mm/s?

:smile_cat:

I believe that this setting is also correct.
I feel that it may be limited to distance units.
This may be worth review:
