More Boxes.py questions

On my way. Will get back once cut :flexed_biceps:

Where is the fun in that?

I think your sketch is probably the correct ration between the height of the box and the full height (with the lid).

This below would be somewhere my desired final dimensions. And I would like to have a layered top (like the Pirate chest on boxes.py) not a living hinge top (as it is on the universal box) as that one takes forever to cut. Number of “sides” of the lid doesn’t matter - somewhere around 20-25mm each would be almost fine. Just FYI - I’m right now cutting the universal box with the chest lid type from boxes…will get back with some results in about an hour (living hinge top really sucks  ).

Sometimes you learn more by looking at someone else’s design. Especially if it works :slightly_smiling_face:

Test cut done. Noticed that holes and fingers of the bottom do not align. But the point was the lid - it’s a perfect fit on the top of the box. And that’s it. Why should I use such a box if the lid just lays on the sides :face_with_hand_over_mouth: makes no sense. But at least I now have some more firewood  And I have to admit it’s a quite nice looking box anyhow - the sides ratio is almost perfect for a gift box. A few decorative elements on it, some engravings and it would be really pretty nice box. Despite the missing hinges

Well… we didn’t design it…

There is a setting for hinges.

No magic involved.

The only reason I would download someone else’s design.

I’ve read that a lot of Esty designs don’t always work as expected.

Looks good!

Maybe you could make the hinges by gluing some material strips across (like a section of ribbon) and cover over the ribbon with small pieces of wood like this:

Or one big “piano” hinge same but ribbon lengthways might be stronger.

There seems to be no shortage of options today!

Good Thought.

I’ve seen the same idea on some small antiques boxes using a canvas like material.

Or

Glue in some strips of wood on the inside of the lid so the lid doesn’t slip or move around when the lid is placed on top. A couple of small pieces on all four sides should do the trick

That would work well, and might also compliment a material hinge if the other 3 sides to keep the lid aligned and from slipping back towards the hinge when closing.

Yes, this would be (and for this already cut box also will be) the solution. Thank you.

I generally do a simple hing, depending on the object size.

There is a square post that goes through this to hold it.

Looks cool, simple and robust. Thanks :flexed_biceps:

Here’s the inside, you can see the slots cut to hold the hinge. That gives it the best mechanical connection.

Of course, it’s not very easy to fix unless you do it when you cut everything out.

You can also use very strong “nylon tape for roller blinds” I don’t know if it´s the correct name in English.

Or nautical sail patch tape. That stuff is meant to last outdoors.
