Motion but no engraving

Brand new here. Just hooked up my new laser (omtech co2,60w, ruida, USB) and installed Lightburn trial. Everything works when I engrave except it doesnt engrave. even the pulse button does nothing. Not sure if this is a setting in lightburn or a setting on the machine. Its fairly new and worked before bringing it home.

If that’s the pulse button on the machine console, then make sure the controller is set for a manual pulse at a reasonable power level. How you do that (probably) depends on which Ruida controller is in the machine, but on my KT332N:

  • Enter and ↓ to set the power to about 50%
  • Menu → Laser Set and pick Laser Mode: Continue

Whereupon it should fire as long as you hold the Pulse button down. If it doesn’t, then the problem is in the machine and has nothing to do with LightBurn.

I trust you looked under the hatch in the back to make sure the tube didn’t shatter along the way … :broken_heart:

Simple questions, but important. Did you turn on the power switch for the laser? There are 2 switches above each other, one is for the controller and the other is for the laser. Is your door closed? Is your chiller running? Are there any error messages on the controller?

I was with Mike setting this up. Was my machine. Yes, both switches on, Water on and no error messages. We did not jar the machine at all during the move. I hope the trailer ride didn’t make the tube puke. (i doubt it as we were very careful) The only difference is I was ethernet and he is USB. Laser tube is intact as well. Mike, try the suggestion above for manual pulse…not sure which ruida controller it is though.

OK, he said he was new so I had to ask some very basic questions. I doubt it’s anything with the connection type since the gantry can be controlled.

Possibly a connection inside the machine came loose during transport?

Ok so not a software or driver issue then. We will check connections and then turn to the omtech forum. Thanks all

Check the connections from the controller to the lps…

There is basically two, LPWM1 → IN (lps) and L-On1 → L (lps).

Also check that P (lps) is wired to ground…

If you have a voltmeter you can ensure the pwm signal is correct.

:smile_cat:

Got it. Pressed estop and reset then turned key off and on and voila

Thanks all
