Can you upload the problematic PDF?

it wont let me upload.

You might have to append .txt to the filename. This tricks the forum software into thinking it’s a plain text file and then allows you to upload it.

ok I’ll try that.

96efb912f47f693c830ad6fb1b3ed319.txt (19.3 KB)

Ok, I’ve played around with it a bit. I can import it into LB but it’s blank. I can open it in CorelDraw 2018 but there’s an embedded font called “Gunplay” which wasn’t installed on my system so Corel substituted another font. Affinity Designer and Affinity Publisher open it but also substitute the font. Inkscape does the same. I Googled the font and downloaded it from DaFont but Corel, Affinity and Inkscape still want to substitute the font so I’m guessing it isn’t exactly the same in some way. By the way, the apps mentioned also want to substitute a whole list of other fonts that this PDF says it uses but don’t actually appear to be used.

Where are you getting these PDFs?

From memory, LightBurn cannot import text from PDF or AI files. If you created the PDF try converting the text to a path before creating the PDF.

@berainlb I must admit that I hadn’t thought of that! I put it down to the font not being installed.

@andycnc After a bit more playing I’ve found that you can open the PDF in Inkscape but you need to turn off the “Replace PDF fonts by closest-named installed fonts” in the PDF import dialogue. Then you need to perform an “Object to Path” conversion. If you have access to CorelDraw you just need to enable the “Import text as Curves” option. Then you need to save as your preferred vector format for import into LB.

Hope this helps.
