My neighbor passed away and I bought his used Omtech 60 watt 600x400 co2 laser, I had a diode laser but she needed it gone so I bought it from her. She knows nothing about it but I know he used Lightburn. Well, I moved it a couple doors down to my house and I cannot get it to connect to any computer. I bought another usb cable thinking that was the problem, Both of my computers worked fine with my diode laser but will not even bring up a com option. I reloaded CH340 and that didn’t help? It wont talk to Lightburn or RDWORKS. Please help. I already paid too much for it so I’m hoping it’s simple
I think you need a different version of Lightburn.
I googled lightburn and it says even the trial version has no limits and can run any co2 laser
Use the standard diagnostics for USB devices.
- Does Windows announce a tone when you connect or disconnect the laser?
- Is there some indication the laser powers up when you turn it on?
- If it “dings” when you plug it in (connect USB cable), what COM port does it show In Windows Device Manager on the line that includes a CH340 reference? Have no other lasers plugged in when you check this.
- Did your neighbor actually see it run lately?
- If you already have Lightburn Core, you need to download and install the “trial” to a different folder.
- Can you provide the brand and model of laser? Also include what controller information you see in the cabinet.
Other than laser-specific controls, Lightburn is the same for both Core and Pro. Be aware that the only commonality between a diode and CO2 laser is that they both burn stuff. ![]()
You have to deactivate your License to run in trial full working mode and upgrade after you do your tests.
It doesn’t chime at all like my other lasers or cnc plasma or router? I’ve never had any trouble with any other machine except this one? I can run the files he had in his memory in storage on the machine, I’ve ordered a mini pc and monitor and am going to try using the ethernet instead, it’s coming yet today and I’m hoping I can make it work bypassing the USB ports
It’s an Omtech SH-G460 manufactured in 2/2023
any chance you turned off power saving mode in the device manager settings on your pc? also can you connect via ethernet?
Your Laser has a Ruida controller, is a DSP device does your license cover DSP devices?
Yes dsp is covered in my lightburn license.
No, power saving mode is not on. I ordered a mini pc and it’s coming yet today, I’m hoping the ethernet path will make it run. I just downloaded all my files onto a memory stick to install on the new pc later today.
when you do the ethernet path (at least for rd works) make sure you allow the program to access through the firewall and try setting them one ip address apart. also if youre still having issues shoot me a dm, im a laser technician out here in California but wouldn’t min lending a hand via video call
Have you installed the FTDI drivers?
Although it´s better to connect trough Ethernet.
Thank you for your assistance.
Well I hooked up my new pc and followed youtube on how to enter the ip address into the laser and still nothing??? The videos show lines in lightburn when adding the addresses buy I just had an empty box to put the numbers in all in sequence?
I hooked up my new pc and still nothing, I entered the ip address in the machine and only changed the last number and it still does not communicate. On youtube when they enter the ip address in lightburn the numbers had a line underneath but mine only has a empty box to enter them in?
Finally solved the problem I by passed the external usb connection and plugged into the motherboard and off it went. So I’ll try and find replacement dual plug in for the machine. Thanks to everyone
Help again!!!
Yesterday I could make a square on lightburn and the machine would cut the plywood. Today I plugging into the motherboard again and I get the same message as before. Machine is busy or paused? The only difference is I now hear the chime every time I connect the usb cable? Please help
try hitting escape on the controller, also is the controller saying the error? is it frame slop?
