New "No Machine" setting hides "Save GCode" Button as well

Hi!

I just upgraded to 1.5.01 and was overjoyed to see the new No Machine setting as my Snapmaker 2 is two rooms away and I usually just take my laser files to it via usb stick.

So I happily put “No machine”, called it my Snapmaker und set the size parameters and watched all the unnecessary movement buttons vanish. But the “Save GCode” Button vanished as well. and I (probably slightly blind because I always used that button to save) can’t find any other spot where to save it.

I would have thought having a “No machine connected” setting implied the need for saving the gcode separately? or did I get the intention wrong?

is there a keyboard shortcut for saving gcodes? I’d be perfectly fine with a keybind, no button needed.

sorry for the wall of text.

TL;DR: no machine setting hides the save gcode button. but having no machine connected is my reason for saving gcode. did I miss a menu entry or keybind somewhere instead?

otherwise: thanks for a brilliant piece of software, guys! will renew my license for years to come.

regards,
aki

No machine is intended to be used for design only mode with the expectation that you then bring the file to another computer with the actual device configured on it to complete the design.

In order to generate g-code you in fact need to know the machine specifics so that the appropriate g-code can be generated.

Normally you’d create a device identical to your production target machine on your design computer. So in your case, a Snapmaker device would need to be created. You would then select that device when preparing g-code for that device.

ok, thanks, that makes sense. in that case it would be lovely to have some mode for people like me whose machine simply does not communicate with the computer (or at least not with lightburn) - all those move, burn, center, etc buttons take up so much space and are slightly irritating.

if not, well, I’ll just use it as usual. thanks for explaining.

Which buttons in particular are you looking to hide?

Outside of a handful of buttons in the “Laser” window, you should be able to hide anything else you don’t want to see by removing entire windows or toolbars, like the “Move” window or “Arrange (long)” toolbar.

We have a video guide on rearranging your LightBurn workspace here:

Thinks you miss understood the issue

You can still setup your snapmaker and design and even save gcode even if the machine is not connected
The important side, as said before, is that you need lightburn to KNOW what machine and which settings to create Gcode with.

So you can just create machine manually and never connect to it

thanks for the vid. and the additional information.

Well, yes, I know. that’s how I’ve been using Lightburn happily for a year now.

and yes, I understood that it needs to know which machine the gcode goes to. as I said: makes sense that I misjudged the intention behind the “no machine” mode. no worries.

to clarify: my question was (and the video does not answer that, it only tells me how to customize toolbars and move windows): can I get rid of some buttons in the Laser window. namely everything apart from “Save GCode”, “Start from”, “Optimization Settings”, and (probably) “Devices”? did I miss that in the video?

Sorry, no, it is not possible to hide those buttons at this time. We have had some very preliminary internal discussions about making fully customizable toolbars, but customizing windows like the Laser window is not something I believe has been discussed yet.

We have a site for users to vote for new features. You can search to see if this has been requested, and vote it up, or add it so others can vote their support as well. This helps us to prioritize which features to direct development time toward.

will definitely look into that. thanks

but that is my question answered then. thanks everyone for chipping in.
