Newbie to GCode. StepCraft needs GCode generator/ trying MillMage. What is file extension for import to MM? ToolsToday has Spoilboard flatten program, but it isn’t in GCode. How do I import to MM?
Why not just design it in MillMage? I could not find the ToolsToday program mentiomed, but it would be nothing more than a simple Pocket operation covering your CNC’s work area. You can then save the GCode for transferring it to your mill.
If you click on Import in MillMage, you will see all the file extensions it can recognize.
Thanks Mikey - StepCraft sent a simple test file but within their program soft limits need adjusting so no joy. Very new to hobby CNC and quite shocked at the level of tech support. I was expecting to download programs directly into the machine software and run it. Looks like I have to buy MagMill to convert to G-Code then send to StepCraft software???

Running CNC equipment can be quite the learning process.
For CNC Routers, typically you have a controller the sends the commands to the machine to move and does the motion planning - this can be a standalone bespoke device or a PC running software like LinuxCNC/Mach3/4, etc.
The general workflow is Design (CAD) > Programming (CAM) > Control.
For controllers that allow direct control of the machine with any software, MillMage can perform all 3 functions. For the controllers that do not allow other software to run the show, MillMage can perform both the CAD and CAM functions.
From that ToolsToday link it looks like you get both Vectric files and vector (design) files for those projects:
For MillMage, you will want to import the .svg/.dxf files into MillMage, then program the cuts along those paths as desired.
Aint that the truth , but once you get head around it , its so much fun and rewarding
