I’m new and not very technical so please be kind! I’ve got a couple of issues and I’m sure it’s just me being a bit dim …
1-I’m loving Lightburn and have recently paid for the licence after a trial period, but since entering the licence key (and updating the software) for some reason it keeps “Not Responding”. There’s no rhyme or reason to this, no obvious trigger, it just seems to “hang” and then wakes up again. For example, just now I pressed Ctrl Z to undo an import, but sometimes it’s when I try to draw a box or preview.
This didn’t happen at all with the trial version.
2-Since entering the licence key I can no longer save in my chosen folder. I keep receiving an error message telling me that I don’t have permission yet all my permissions are fine and using word, for example, to save to the same folder works fine.
Again, with the trial version this wasn’t an issue.
3-Some images are taking HOURS to engrave. They don’t appear to be particularly complex - just sketches, not photographs, yet are literally taking two or more hours. Could I have some way inadvertently fiddled with a setting that’s causing this? (I’ve also noticed that it doesn’t matter what speed I set for an image (10 or 1000), the preview shows exactly the same time).
The images are either vectors or PNGs (I think).
I can’t remember if I used the images I’m having issues with before I entered the licence key.
I’m using a Chinese 100W (Yellow) laser with Ruida controller, a laptop using Windows 10 and apparently Lightburn 0.9.14 (from “check for updates”).
Hopefully all these questions make sense?
Any help to solve one or all of these issues would be very gratefully received!
Having done a bit more searching through the forums I’ve reset my image settings to the default and the two hour engrave has shrunk to 14 minutes! YAY! So yes, I’d obviously fiddled with something but that’s all better now …
The image setting you changed was probably DPI. If you set that too high the engraving times get pretty huge. For a 100w laser, I wouldn’t recommend going higher than about 125 to 150 DPI, as you have a wider beam than most, so you’re going to be limited by that.
For the ‘Not Responding’ issue, that’s a new one. Where are you loading / saving your files? If it’s a network drive, USB drive, etc, the automatic backup can be slow, so that’s a possibility. I’ve also seen cases where anti-virus software or network domain permissions cause weirdness, but that’s pretty rare.
You’re spot on with the DPI, I don’t know what I’d done, but I’ve reset my images to the default setting and now we’re back to sensible times!
Also spot on with the anti-virus software, so that issue’s fixed blocking me from saving into the place I want.
The Not Responding is still happening though … I’m loading and saving from the documents folder on my laptop drive (now I’ve fixed the anti-virus blocking me from doing so), and sadly the anti-virus “fix” hasn’t fixed this.
I did notice my lightburn was more likely to crash when I was opening files from another computer across a network. I am sure my network was at fault as it was one of those mains powerline adapters. Its fine when opening files locally.
