Not able to work after updating LB

I finally got my laser installed, and did a couple burns on it with an older version of LB.
Satisfied, I updated LB to the latest last night. (1.7.06)
Today, I can’t work.

When I output the Gcode to the USB stick, it creates a file as XYZ.GC
I eject the stick and take that to the snapmaker.
Putting the stick in the SM, it sees the stick, but insists there’s no file present.
Go back to the PC, and there’s the file, plus “LOST.DIR” which has nothing in it.
I did try renaming the file to XYZ.gcode, but same problem.

I can’t imagine how, but it seems that the new version of LB is causing a problem.
I don’t know the old version number, but probably more than a year old.

I could understand if it tried to open the file and saw something it didn’t like, but the SM is saying the file isn’t even there.

I did try with a different stick, same problem.
I reformatted (long format) the first stick, same problem.

Now what?

It seems unlikely to me that the cause of this problem is a new version of LightBurn, that’s probably a coincidence that feels like a cause.

If it IS a new version, you can download and install any old version from here:
https://release.lightburnsoftware.com/LightBurn/Release/

The folder “LOST.DIR” doesn’t sound like it has anything to do with LightBurn, in fact the only reference I can find to that folder name relates to Android phones? Are you sure you are saving the GCode file correctly? When you click “Save GCode” a popup should appear with a drop down asking where you’d like the file saved. If you can save the file to say, your desktop, then LightBurn is working fine and the problem is your Smartmaker machine reading the “stick” and would have nothing to do with your version.

That file is simply a text file without any formatting except carriage returns and linefeeds.

Manually create a text file, type in some GCode commands, and save it to your USB stick (thumb drive). See if your laser will accept that. This takes Lightburn out of the picture completely.

If it does work, add the .TXT extension to the original GC file and attach it in your reply.

I figured it out last night. The snapmaker wants laser files named xyz.nc but the default with LB is xyz.gc. I may have changed it way back when I last used LB, but it looks like either the default changed, or the new LB changed the default to .GC.

Up and running now.

Hey @dbvanhorn it’s good to know! Add that to my mental data-base of problems and now because you told us, its here for the next person with the same problem! Thanks
