I am trying to engrave this onto a dark object so I wanted to invert it. I have tried offsetting it but then the preview and engraving engraves everything inside the outline. Normal preview before offsetting looks fine. Drawing on the screen with offset looks fine, but actual engraved object is just like a shadow. Lightburn core 2.0.05 windows 11.
I went back and tried several times. One time I got this preview, which is what I want.
I tried again just to see, didn’t change any settings, and got the totally dark engrave preview again.
Go to your Settings and disable “filled rendering” There could be geometry in your design you can’t see with that enabled.
The default settings have this disabled for that reason.
I have tried several different offset distances. Still will get the totally dark preview. I did get one correct (I think) preview, It did engrave correctly. Went back and did same steps to offset and got dark preview again.
I tried changing the render fill, Did not make a difference.
Upload the lbrn2 file so we can inspect it.
Problem with offset..lbrn2 (330.1 KB)
I think I did this correctly. The top one seems to work correctly. When I did an offset on the bottom one it was all dark in the preview.
I just did the same.02 offset as you show in an earlier post. This is my result. I don’t find a problem.
I think I know what’s happening now. I was able to reproduce your results. If you have cut selected graphics selected, you are only selecting the outer offset, you need to select the entire image.
With only the offset selected.
With the entire image selected.
I just now hit the preview and it came out correctly. Hadn’t changed anything, left the program open while working on something else. If I control z to go back to the original object, then offset, it is again black when selected to preview. If I select the object along with the text it is correct. I then selected just the object and it was still correct. If I click on the center of the offset cow and preview, it gives me a non-offset preview. If I select the cow by dragging from the right or left it shows me the offset preview. If I take the original cow, offset it and the immediately preview while it is still selected, I get the black preview. If I click somewhere else on the screen, then go back and select as above, it will show the two different previews, one as if normal and the other as offset, depending on how I select it.
When you do the offset, only the offset is selected. You must select the entire graphic. Select from right to left and you will have the graphic and the offset.
You are describing a normal selection result.
I think that might have been the problem. I wasn’t grouping the offset with image. Should have known better. Been doing this for a while but couldn’t figure out why it was acting the way it was. Still seems strange clicking in the center of the offset image when not grouped gives you the regular image. Thank you so much for your help and time.
It does that because you are only selecting the image without the offset. You could select the image and offset then group them. After that it won’t matter how you select, you will have the entire image you want.
Got it. Thanks again for all your help. Glad we were able to figure it out.
