I have an OMTech K40 and I can not for the life of me get it to show up on either my MacBook Air or Windows PC. I’ve power cycled everything in every combination, I’ve replaced the cable, Ive tried different USB ports on my Computers and nothing seems to work. I got the laser off Marketplace used, however the fella that was selling it function tested it infront of me.
It’s very possible that the issue is something very basic that I’m overlooking, so any ideas, no matter how silly they seem would be appreciated as I am new to this.
Just to be sure, you are trying to “find” your laser in LightBurn, is that correct?
Try to see if there is a cable connection on the inside of the box from the external USB connector to the controller usb itself, if the internal connection is proper.
If it doesn’t appear automatically, you can create a profile with standard GRBL. But of course, MacOS and Windows should first have the USB device registered.
no, it is not necessary. When you specify GRBL in LightBurn, it tries to talk to your laser in this “language”, it is "built into LB.
Do you have contact with the machine in Windows?, can you see USB activity in the system window from Windows? (or in your MacOS)
What I don’t know is whether OMT uses standard GRBL or one of the other “dialects”, with mine it worked with standard GRBL.
It’s good that you’re an optimist. Is the USB cable you’re using the same as the one used for the laser demo? Communication between computer and laser with USB has always been a bit critical.
I can’t remember if it was important that the laser be connected before starting the computer and LB…, you can only try or hope another user with your machine comes into the game.
It’s good that it’s been clarified. Then it just needs to be found by LB. After you’ve created a new profile with the data that fits your K40, you’ve definitely tried the different USB ports on your computer. Have you had any reaction in the console?. Is there a response to the $$ command?
It would also be interesting/important to know which board they have built into your machine, there are at least 5 different ones as far as I can remember. Some require specific USB drivers. Can you contact the seller and ask him about it?
Nothing out of the $$ command, the console just says “waiting to connect” over and over again. The window that you click play pause and stop says ready on one but not the other USB port. I’ll throw a picture of the board.
Thank you so much for helping me trouble shoot this. I really can’t say that enough man.
Hurray, I’m initially happy about your success.
