So I bought a new CO2 laser and it works great but I believe the head of the laser is canted slightly to the right, I have checked my alignment about a dozen times but I’m getting a angled cut on my left and right side but not my top and bottom, really hard to capture in a photo but I am uploading one for
That’s what it looks like to me. You need to adjust the head so it aligns perpendicular to the bed. The way I check this alignment is to put a piece of scrap under the nozzle and pulse it to leave a mark, then lower the bed considerably and pulse again without moving anything else. Both marks should align if it’s perpendicular. Make the necessary adjustments and try again.
It’s possible that it might be a 3rd mirror alignment issue as well, but I would think the beam would hit the side of the nozzle if it was off that far.
I haven’t found any information on how to make that adjustment, any insight on that? I didn’t wanna just start taking things loose😂
Sorry, I’m not familiar with the construction of that particular machine. On mine, there are screws that hold the head to the gantry with slots for adjustment. You will need to examine your machine.
The beam must go through the center of the lens or you will get an angled cut. You can have a square head and the cut still be slanted.
I’d bet the alignment is off from m3 onward. These heads are difficult to align since you get get to a midpoint to see where the beam is impacting.
Sometimes the hole in the head for m3 isn’t in the middle.
I’d check that, after I sent a note to OMTech and advised them of the issue. It’s new, it should work.
I found a 90W here that shows a good photo of the head – is this similar to what you own?
Can’t tell how it’s actually mounted.
Yep that one is identical, iv tested the alignment down to coming out of the nozzle and it all seems centered. I’m going to send you a DM and give you a little more context if you don’t mind
Just make it public, then everyone benefits…
I have a completely different head on my machine.
One reason I’m fairly certain it’s the head is because I had an incident where the auto focus failed(my fault for leaving the head in harms way) and the head hit a baseball and dug into it so I think the pressure pushed the head off center
Moral of the story is don’t trust auto focus lol
If you had some type of mechanical collision then that can knock your head out of alignment.
I’d suggest a square on the table up against the head… That’s how I did mine.
The question is, if there is sufficient adjust ability with the head to correct the angle.
Omtech seems to think so, they said both the work bed and head could be adjusted so we will see lol
Fixed! It was actually a lot easier than I thought it would ! Head moved pretty easy just 3 bolts
