Omtech Rotary with Long Stem Wine Glasses

I just got a new rotary from Omtech to go with my laser machine. I was able to set up to do the wine, glasses and other glasses that do not have stems but I’m having problem with wine glasses that do have stems. There’s just not enough adjustment on the rotary support wheels to level the bowl. How are you all handling that situation? Thanks.

Tilt the whole rotary to make up the difference, so you’re engraving surface is level.

You can also use a longer lens to increase your depth of focus.


Wheeled rotaries usually do best using a scan operation compared to vector engraving. Wheels tend to slip from acceleration.

On mine, I slow the Y axes way down when doing vectors.

Thanks Jack. I had done that before with my diode laser, tilting it. Don’t know why Iit did not occur to me to do it with the new equipment.

On the y acceleration, are you adjusting it in “machine settings”? What number are you using? Thanks again.

If you view the data via Edit → Machine Settings you can also manipulate it via that interface.

FIRST - save the current configuration in a couple of places, it’s how the machine came from the factory or the factory settings. I have a copy on Google drive and a local version.

Then when you modify anything you can save them as different configurations…

I have multiple .lbset files for different jobs on my different rotaries along with different machines.

The main two areas with rotaries are the acceleration and the jump off speed. The jump off speed is the speed the axes start moving before acceleration is applied.

I have some rotary functions where jump off is very low… single digits and acceleration in the 100mm/s^2. You have to find what works with your rotary and material… some glass may slip and other grip tightly…

I save the modified .lbset files, so I can reload them when needed. Hopefully you have save the current version, so you can just load it back when you’re done rotaring…
