Only 1 object gets cut after upgrading from v 1.7.08 to 2.0.0x

Hi - since upgrading from v 1.7.08 to 2.0.0x, I am having issues when cutting multiple objects.
Only 1 object gets cut at a time and then the lazer stalls - I have to manually cut each object which is n real pain. The laser head also does not return to origin.

When this issue happens, the Laser Busy indicator shows as complete after cutting only 1 object.

Before running the cut, I do a preview and play which shows that all objects will be cut, but then when I actually start the cut, only one object is cut.

I tried saving the cut as GCode and then ran that with the same result.
I verified all my settings as correct.

“Cut selected graphics” flag is set to false, so that is not the issue.
I tried with the “Cut Select Graphics” flag with the flag set to on and then selecting all objects, but still the same result(preview shows all will be cut).

I have tried all 3 of the v2.0.0x versions, with all giving the same result.
I downgraded to v 1.7.08 and now everything is working fine again.

As a final test in v 1.7.08, I selected “Cut selected Graphics” and selected all objects
which then cut all without issues.

I therefore believe that there is an issue in the v 2.0.0x versions.

I have the following setup:
Laser : Atomstack X40 Max (GRBL)
Laptop : HP Elitebook Intel(R) Core™ i7-8650U CPU @ 1.90GHz 2.11 GHz
System type : 64-bit operating system, x64-based processor
RAM : 64,0 GB (63,8 GB usable)
Windows : Windows 11 Enterprise
Windows Ver : 23H2

Thanks
Corrie

I tried a test with LB 2.0.02 using 3 objects not grouped. I found no issue with it completing all three. Test file attached.

Cut Multiple Test.lbrn2 (15.3 KB)

Maybe provide your file for investigation?

Hi Mike

Please find attched my file as requested:
Hockey Stick.lbrn2 (39.1 KB)

I was able to cut all objects without issues over the weekend using v 1.7.08

I re-installed ver 2.0.02 and ran your file. Only 1 object was cut.

This is the preview before my cut:

Cut selected graphics set to cut all:

Something I also notice is that sometimes when I click on a menu item i.e.File / Recent Projects, nothing happens. On the second attempt, I will get the sub-menu.

If you need any other info, please let me know

In your last image, Cut Selected Graphics is not turned on. Red is off, green is on.

Hi Mike - yes, I tested with both on and off

If on, graphics outside your selection will be ignored. I keep mine on all the time.

The only other thing I can think of is for you to do a Save GCode with the file I sent you. Save it with a .txt extension and drop it in a Reply. I will compare it to my version to see what might be different.

Hi again Mike

Sorry for the delay - I had a big order to finish (using v1.7.08)

I re-installed 2.0.02 and re-ran your test.
The first image is of my settings where Cut selected Graphics is switched on and where all objects where selected :

All 3 engravings where done but only object 1 and 2 where cut and then the laser stopped.
As per this image you can see that I get a Ready sign indicating that the job completed.

This is a photo of what engraved and cut (3rd object did not cut)
The laser also did not return to home as it usually does but got stuck where it ended with object 2

Here is the GCode as requested.

I think I see what is going on. Are you seeing any error messages in the Console window when it stops?

I have edited your GC file (attached) with comments. Your Lightburn appears to be generating the GCode for everything. There are no wonky GCode commands in it, so it is not being told to stop. Lightburn is good to go. The laser controller is deciding to stop on its own.

I notice every stop is when it is commanded to do something near the front left corner. the #3 was processed, but the rectangle around it was not. This tells me you are hitting a boundary over there. And this means your coordinate settings will not let you get there.

You willing to go through the steps to get this sorted out? If so, we first need to know if you have Limit switches.

Cut Multiple Test - Commented.gc.txt (9.0 KB)

Hi Mike

Thanks for the info and taking the trouble to go through everything.

Yes, I am of course willing to go through the steps with you - somebody else might have the same issue and benefit by us doing this.

My exact machine :

The machine comes with limit switches. I did not notice any error codes when this happened.
I also placed the test objects far inside the cut area, so it was nowhere near any limits, so this is strange.

As mentioned, I reverted to the older version and did a lot of cutting which also came close to the edge of my cut area, all without any issues.

If you need me to delve deeper into any settings, code etc then let me know - I am a programmer by trade.

I live in South Africa (GMT+2), so if there is a delay in communication it is because we are in different tz’s

Great!

I am on the road until Thursday, so my replies may be spotty depending on motel service. but we can get started.

I have a 10w and a 40w Sculpfun. The 10w is my scalpel and the 40w is my chainsaw. :joy:

The first thing is to gather the GRBL parameters and copy them to a reply and a safe place in a text file. If you want, you can upload the text file instead of pasting them in the Reply.
Fire up the laser and PC, Load Lightburn (v2), and then open the Console window. Now right-click and select Clear Console.
Enter these commands in the Console in this order:

  1. $$
  2. $#
  3. ?

In the Console window, right click and select Select All, then select Copy. Paste that info to a text file and put it in a safe place. I also printed them out for my machines.

This is the part that we have to figure out what the difference is. I (and others I am sure) will study your settings and maybe get lucky. But we must stick to the file I provided that works for me and not for you. It is our baseline for testing.

Hi Mike

Hahaha - like your scalpel and chainsaw

Here is the Console output using ver 2.0.02 :
Console Output v2.0.02.txt (685 Bytes)

I also did the same for ver 1.7.08 :
Console Output v1.7.08.txt (700 Bytes)

I comared the 2 files and only found 1 difference :

Ver 1.7.08 has the Ov:100,100,100 bit extra in the FS:0,0|Ov:100,100,100 value.

Mike !!

Good news !

I found the issue - not software

Previously my transfer mode was set to Synchronous.
I changed it to Bufferred and then I was able to run your test file without issues.
After this, I imported my file and placed objects all over the cut area and was able to cut every one without issues !

Thanks a million for your support !

Hope this will help someone else also

Good grief! I hate it when it is a simple solution! :joy:

Glad you got it running. I would have not expected a communications issue to cause your symptoms.

Happy again because my car broke down and I am stuck between 2 civilizations ane I could not examine the files.

Yes it was a simple solution in the end and weird that it worked with the older version, but @least it is sorted out now.

Good luck with your car and thanks again for assisting me :+1:t2::+1:t2::+1:t2::+1:t2:

Hi Mike

After a few day’s running on the new version I experienced a new issue.

Sometimes the laser just stop mid-burn after doing a few objects. The laser light is still on but
the laser just stalls for no reason.

I also see that a job completes, but the status stays on 99%. I have to physically click stop before I can start the next job.

I reverted to 1.7.08 again as I have a few big jobs that I am busy with.

Sorry, I really thought this issue was sorted out ;-(

Corrie

You mean the beam is still on but the motors stop?

Hey Mike - yeah, that is correct.

I may be missing something here, but if a G0 or a Halt command is issued, the laser should turn off.

Not sure how well Atomstack plays GRBL, but check these things:

  1. Make sure parameter $32=1. This one was added for laser on/off control.
  2. Make sure your Device Type is GRBL only, with no letters following it.
  3. Did your machine come with a .lbdev file, and if so did you install it?

Hi Mike

I have downloaded the latest version 2.0.03 and have been testing it the last few days and so far it seems like the issue is resolved. I can cut multiple selected objects without any issues.

If I experiece any other issues, I will report them, but so far, so good

Corrie
