I’m doing an operation where I’m creating a pattern using very shallow drill holes. It works great but I was wondering if there was a way for me to specify the order of the drill holes within the operation? It’s a circular pattern, so I would the the operation to start in the center and move outward. Any way to do this? It’s over 300 drills, so I don’t really want to create a new operation for each drill action. Thanks!
Answer: I do not think MillMage has the means to assign a new starting point. This has been discussed, and might be added later.
Question: Why does it matter that you start in the center in your project?
My operation uses a round bit to create a circle on the surface (brass) and so they end up overlapping. Controlling the order will let me get a more desirable pattern. I’m basically doing perlage with the CNC. Even without that capability, I think this is going to really work out nicely. Thanks!
MIllMage starts the next op at the point closest to the last operation, or likely the origin if there was no previous op.
There isn’t currently a way to manually order within an op - it uses a greedy path planner borrowed from LightBurn to order the cuts within an operation to reduce overall travel time.
Thanks for confirming what I remembered. Knowing how it determines Start point is a clue on how to manipulate it, to a degree.
Thank you. I might be able set up a run as a series of drill operations if I ungroup and then regroup in specific sets. Then I can just oder the drill operations the way I want. Cheers!
Make your first drill (in the center) the first operation. Then Let MillMage find the rest, which should pick up near the first operation. Preview to confirm.
