Ortur Laser Master 2 Grinding Noise and All Over The Place

I know how to use lightburn but when it comes to fixing the actual laser I’m a bit lost. Our laser (Ortur laser master 2) is making a terrible grinding noise, quitting mid job, engraving in random places, Grinding when it goes home and the engraved words also have weird wavy lines in them. Could it be the stepper motor? I’m super new to this as this laser was a gift. Thanks

Can you take a some photos of the burns that you’ve created?

Top Picture is our usual engraved name. Bottom is what it’s doing now. Random lines and waves

Are these examples all based on the same settings?

Can you upload a .lbrn file where you’re seeing these issues?

Yes all the same settings. Just randomly started doing it on Friday.
Current engraver.lbrn (1.1 MB)

I’m trying to think of something that would account for all the various issues I see in the burn but can’t think of a single thing like that.

I don’t see anything obvious in the .lbrn file. One question is if there’s a reason you’re using “Constant Power Mode”. This won’t be the cause of the issues you’re having but curious since that will generally result in worse results.

I think at least part of the issue may be due to skipping belts. I’d suggest a thorough mechanical review of the machine. Check belt tension, check that the pinion gears are well secured to the stepper shaft.

If that changes the behavior then can assess the next set of symptoms.
