Ortur Laser Master Pro 2 SP — X-axis Diode Carriage Studdering / Jerking

Hello, I recently reassembled my Ortur Laser Master Pro 2 SP after having it packed away for a year.

I’m running into an issue where the X-axis diode carriage is studdering or jerking when it attempts to make successive rapid moves along the gantry. That is, it moves just fine and smoothly when I, e.g., move the diode to a new position along a straight path or use the Frame function in LightBurn.

Here’s a quick video to illustrate what’s happening: Ortur Laser Master Pro 2 SP X-axis Jittering

I noticed the diode carriage was a bit loose, so I adjusted the eccentric nut on the bottom POM wheel and now it is snug without appearing to restrict or impede the smooth motion of the diode along the X-axis. I also adjusted the belt tension using the tensioner, but neither of these resolved my problem.

Tagging @OrturTech for advice.

Thank you in advance for your help!

One additional detail – as part of getting the machine put back together I downloaded and printed this cable management: Printables, which includes a cable holder that mounts to the two bolts that secure the two top POM wheels. After I removed and replaced the two lock nuts, is when I noticed the carriage didn’t sit snugly on the gantry, which I assumed was problematic, which prompted me to adjust the eccentric nut (which, incidentally, is nigh impossible to reach with a pair of pliers when using the laser with the Ortur metal enclosure for my laser model.

When I have problems, it is usually the stepper motor wiring connector not being fully seated. Also, I turn off the machine and restart lightburn. It seems to help me.

Ha… so the problerm was that I had the speed on my machine set waaaaay too high. :person_facepalming:t2:
