Ortur Rotary messing up

Hello. I am working on cutting a bunch of Rtic tumblers, the ones with a strange shape. When i cut them they mess up like this. This only happens on these tumblers, it does not happen on solid cylinder cups. I am using an Ortur 2 roller rotary and am at my wits end. Thanks

What is different about them?

It looks like you object is slipping when it moves.

Might want to lower the speed on that axes. I mean the acceleration and take off speed. I know acceleration is available with grbl, don’t know about take off speed.

Can you scan it parallel to the mug? Looks like you’re spinning the mug back and forth.

Here is my setup, I rotate the mug and scan left and right. The mug is only moved a slight amount to the next scan line. It looks like you are spinning the mug…?

With the solid cylinder cups, they have smooth sides rather than tapered. I will try to slow the axis down. if i am understanding what you are saying, your x axis moves left and right and your y axis is the roller?

Yes, the mug has minimum movement with that configuration.

I ended up ordering a chuck rotary. I hope that that will fix it.

IMHO…

The problem is that you are trying to move something too fast. It’s a delicate trade off since you loose speed control when the acceleration, start speeds and maximum speeds are very low.

I’ve seen that same problem with chuck types, where they damage the cup getting it tight enough to hold.

When it’s ‘chucked’ it has to be parallel, adding another issue.

It is even more difficult to use a chuck on something that is tapered, as you have to ‘tilt’ the rotary to keep something tapered parallel to the head.

The less you have to move the object the better your engraving will come out.

Good luck

we have tried to slow down the roller axis but it still did not fix it. we decided that it needed to get some more grip on the cup but we tried everything. so we ordered a chuck
