Since all the shapes here are closed, the simplest way to split it would be the boolean tools.
- Group the part of the the design you want to split (the black layer)
- Create a rectangle over the first half
- Duplicate the design (select it, Ctrl+D)
- Duplicate the rectangle
- Select the design and the rectangle and click âBoolean Intersectionâ
- Select the copy of the design and rectangle and click âBoolean Subtractâ
The bottom is the result, with the two halves moved a little so you can see the split easily.
So I have tried this several times, When I select the image and then the rectangle I try to engage the boolean subtract but the tool is greyed out from both the tool bar and the tool menu⌠The only option I have is to weld the box and the image.
The most likely cause is that the shapes arenât closed. Go to Edit > Select open shapes and it will show you. Then you can Edit > Close paths or Close selected paths with tolerance.
Closed path with tolerance was the only option available⌠I tried that and still cannot use the tool.
Post the file and we can take a look.
Be sure you have ungrouped the vectors making up the text. If you have, for example, the loop in H and the loops in O grouped, the Boolean will not work (this is from memory, so I could be wrong). But I would bet at least $1 on it.
Oh and I just looked at the picture you posted and will also add, donât select everything when you do the intersection. Try this with only selecting the two independent closed paths.
(this is when I wish I was at my workstation so I could double check myself).
Boolean operations require exactly two inputs - If you want to boolean several things, they have to be grouped, so this very definitely works.
@djsteves - If you canât post the file, email it to support at lightburnsoftware dot com and we can have a look. User-submitted files are not shared or used for any purpose other than debugging.
See, this is the result of my problem of developing âmuscle memoryâ for this stuff. It is bizarre to me when I realize I am not even thinking about what I am doing when creating work.
I should hold off on my input when I am away from my workstation. We see what happens otherwise.
Looks like I owe someone a dollar. Even funnier, check the edit history of my attempt and youâll see my memory struggling to extract the info from my Precision Trained hands. lol
