LightBurn, you guys’ rock! I have to share this photo that I got somewhere of a group where the person was so disappointed that this had happened because they never paid for software before. Serves them right, I had a good laugh this was absolutely brilliant!!
Totally agree, although I hope that by now there are more than two developers!
This might be a good opportunity to say how much I appreciate this software.
I’m a veteran software engineer who manage several teams. There is absolutely no way I could produce this software for the price you guys do. Neither with the resources I have at a multi-million dollar company nor as a side project. The finances simply don’t work out.
My understanding is that LightBurn has “thousands” of users. Maybe that’s 2k and maybe it’s 200k. If I assumed it meant something like 3k users upgrade the GRBL version every single year, that’s a total of $180k per year. An okay salary for a single software engineer, if you had no business expenses, but I know better. You’ll eat that up in hosting, computers, test machines, tax prep, and more and be left with very little. I imagine you would need at least 9k active users to break even if you ONLY had two developers and absolutely no other staff. And, now, you have 9k users to support.
It really is a service to the community that you provide this software so inexpensively. I don’t know how you do it. Hats off to you.
Joel
I wish I could earn that much!
But then again, I live in France, not in the USA…
Oh, and I suppose you talk about how much such engineer costs to the enterprise, not how much they earn. Doh.
