How do I load a picture of a project. I attempted to use the upload button and got the file name. Tell you I am challenged with all things computer

Where are you trying to load the pic? The laser?
It could be under : File>import
Or you might need to change the file to import.
Copy & paste is often easiest for a photo.
Just use ctrl+c to copy your image and ctrl+v to paste it right in to your post.
