Power wont set above 79%

I wonder if anyone can help please.
:pray:t2: disconnected my laser to move to another location and now I cannot get the power to 100% as previously used.
When asking it to cut, the laser moves to the location, looks like it is going to cut and just stops after one fire.
All of my settings that I can see are exactly the same. $30 and S-value are the same, it is just that the laser will no longer work at 100% power. Also will not cut through 3mm ply on any lower power setting
I have a Neje E40.
If anyone can shed any light that would be amazing. Thank you

Try moving your project to another area of the workspace it may be that when the laser reaches the position it is putting strain on the cable and creating a broken connection.

Hey,
Thank you but it’s not that. I’ve played around with settings.
If I change the $30 to say 1250, it will allow me to cut at 100%, however it’s not cutting at that.
If I change the S-Value to match, it goes to work, does one fire and then the whole laser stops?

Could you have $31 set to a non zero value?

:smile_cat:

Hey,
$31 = 0
Currently $32 = 1000
S-Value = 800
And works on 100% power, however now have to do 3 passes at 220 mm/m
Where as before could do 240mm/m on 2 passes.

Sorry $30 = 1000

I think with the values of 800/1000 you could only get a maximum of 80% power…

$30 must = S-Value Max

$32 needs to be 1

All of these are covered in the setup procedures outlined by the Lightburn grbl installation documentation.

:smile_cat:

But that’s the issue.
If I set the $30 and the S-Value the same, I cannot set the laser to 100%. The highest power to make the laser work is 79%.
If I put the power to 100% it moves to where the job starts, fires once and then does nothing, the job is still running and the laser is not moving.
Trying to find out if I have missed a setting for this to happen.
If I set the S-value higher than 800, it has the same issue.

Ensure the controller is properly setup, then investigate what isn’t working correctly.

Do you have a voltmeter?

You can use it to read the pwm output and eliminate the controller or the laser module.

It is a 5V (ttl compatible) output from the controller and input to the laser module. At 50% power, it should read 2.5V or 50% of 5V… 20% is 1V

Hey Jack,
This is a new issue, it worked perfectly before disconnected and moved to another workshop.
I have checked all connections and all other possibilities.
Didn’t know if someone knew if I had missed a setting for this to happen.
It just seems really odd that the laser won’t work at 100% when it has for the last year, at least
Many thanks

Yep… my tire worked perfectly until it was just flat…

That’s how it works lots of times…

I can’t really help you much without you giving me the information I requested on the voltages.

There are only a couple possibilities, hardware or software. If the same machines, in the same configuration go though a move, then it’s indicative of a hardware failure…

This issue you’re experiencing isn’t one that would be caused by a hardware failure such as would happen in a move of the equipment.

The control line to the laser module is a digital pwm signal. Digital signals generally don’t have these kinds of failures… They tend to get stuck in one state or the other.

Thanks for trying to help Jack.
If I can sort out the information for you I will let you know.

This isn’t rocket science… so don’t sweat too much… We can help you if you want it.

Just frustrating that something has happened. Usually pretty good at reading the info and going ahhh that was it!
Also can’t see if why from unplugging and plugging back in, this would be an issue…
Oh, forgot to say, when I used actual NEJE software programme it worked a treat! So definitely something on lightburn. That’s just come to me!

If the other software works properly, then it must be something you have changed or was changed in Lightburn…

Might want to check out this about migrating

I can’t think of what could have changed in any case… Unplugging it and plugging it back in shouldn’t change any values that were set and working.
