Problem with closing shapes while Node Editing

I am having problem with closing shapes when I am doing Node Editing. I am trying to edit text from a recipe card that has been traced. If you look at the photo, I am trying to remove the underline that linked the letters together. I went into nodes and removed the line, and reconnected the nodes together on each of the two letters. The nodes snapped to another node, but they will not auto join to the other node. So, when I select one letter, the A for example, both letters are selected. They are not grouped - the ungroup icon is grayed out. I checked to see if there were multiple ‘unjoined’ nodes in the letters but there are not.

One quick trick is:
Offset shapes (ctrl+O) and then set the offset distance to 0.01 of something similair very small.
Check “delete original objects” and it will create a new closed shape.

Not in the node editor, did you try selecting a character then ‘Edit → Autojoin selected shapes’ ?

If it’s not an issue, you can drop the .lbrn2 file here for us to examine. We could then give you various ‘fixes’ and how they were done… Probably don’t need it here, but in the future as a reference.

Good luck

Yes, the Autojoin was turned on. How I fixed the problem was to bring up ‘Close Selected Paths with Tolerance’ and run the slider up until the two letters joined. I then selected two nodes in between the two letters and broke them. I moved and rejoined them so they formed the two separate letters. As soon as I did that, they closed the paths!

When you go to preview or print and it notifies you that there are unclosed objects. It will show you. But it shows a general area…
Would be nice for it to highlight thr openings or something. On a large image… This can take a while to find.unless i am missing something.
