Problem with lightburn 2 computers help please

Hi I am running lightburn on 2 computer one where I make designs and setting for those files and the second computer is with my laser, I use it to control the laser.

I copied my .prefs file from my Design pc and imported it on the second computer attached to the laser so that all the settings and stuff would match up and be the same, anyway I had to add my laser to the second pc because the .prefs from my first pc the one used for design isn’t attached to the actual laser it has a manual set up that is set to the same dimensions as the laser cutting area, any way after I go detect the laser and set it up on the second pc and save everything I try to import the saved files .lbrn and .clb files and they are not showing the right information that they were saved with, I get random speed setting and random power setting not what was saved in the .lbrn or the library .clb its like the 2 software installations are out of sync or some thing, I don’t get it when I save a file it should save with those exact file settings and should be the same on what every installation of lightburn I open them on

been tearing my hair out trying to work it out

It sounds like the units setting is different between the 2 installations. This could make the cut numbers look totally different.

How exactly did you transfer the preferences?

Also, I’m not following why you had to do the laser configuration again as that should be a part of the preferences file. Unless you’re saying you had to do that for first install. By the way, you can export the device settings if you click the Devices button in the Laser window.

hi thanks for the reply, I exported the preferences file with he the export Pref file in the light burn software File tab and the Export Prefs button and then save the files and move it to the other pc and then import it.

I switched computers that runs the laser so I had to do a fresh install so had to do the laser set up again, I didn’t know that’s what the device export function was for I will go and try that, with the preferences file from my main design and then just import the device

thanks

That seems to have resolved the issue importing the preferences file from the other pc that I have been working on, then importing the exported laser device file

So are you good now?

I don’t think you should use ‘import’ if the complete file is to be used. Using import will retain the current layers, if I remember correctly.

Just ‘open’ the file, not ‘import’ it.

You only need import if you are creating a project and want to ‘add’ external objects to it.

:smiley_cat:

Thanks for everyone’s replies, the problem I was having is resolved it was user error not know how to use lightburn and its features, thanks for all the help :+1:
