Hi. Here again with a different question - I’m doing multiple tests with the material test grids but, apart from the little squares that are cut on too high power, the squares are mostly cut through up each side but not across top and bottom. That means I’m having to use more power than I think I really need to get decent cuts all round. Any ideas why this is happening please? Could it be an issue with the X axis setup?
This is because the beam is a rectangle, not a square. A 10w laser typically has a (claimed) .06mm x .08mm dot. The same power in the .06 dimension is spread out over .08mm in the Yaxis. This means less power in the “.06 zone” of the Yaxis.
Summary: the Yaxis cutting power is less than the Xaxis, so you need to compensate with more power or more passes (my preferred) to make sure everybody gets cut all the way through.
There is nothing wrong with your setup or laser.
