Proximity Sensor for OM_TEC 60W

I turned my OmTech 60 W laser on couple days ago after doing so many other necessary things for almost three months and it crashed into Home on the “X” rail. The sensor was in disarray so I took it off the rail and realized it was broken inside. Checked with manufacturer for price….Went to my business Amazon account and ordered exact replacement.

Thought I certainly couldn’t be only one with this difficulty at some time……

I have absolutely no idea why it crashed hard enough to break it open. I found nothing in the way. I have never had any problem with the sensors.

If your seek speed is high and no switch closure is detected, you have your answer.

Sorry for my clouded brain, what do you mean exactly by the seek speed?

Are you referring to the speed which the machine goes to “Home”?

Yes, the fast approach speed when it is heading for the switches. That should be considered a precision operation and slower is better. Unfortunately, I have no idea if slower would have saved the switch. One thing is for sure, it is obvious the switch failed.

For your Ruida controller you would find the “homing seek speed” under Vendor Settings.

Typically the speed is around 50mm/s. If you find that is too quick and you’re crashing into your sensors you may want to drop that speed slightly.

Although I have seen non contact sensors simply fail as well. Depending on the topology of the switch itself.

Higher end active sensors will use a hall effect sensor. They will tend to have a faster switching speed than a mechanical reed switch type.

Also keep in mind that not all sensors are created equal. Some will have a longer detect distance.

You may find simply using a longer detected distance is enough to keep your machine from crashing.

Installed the new sensor. It came with a long cable attached. After following the route of the cable I decided to splice cable instead of tearing the machine apart. After a couple adjustments works fine. Approach speed wasn’t fast at all so I left that as it was. When turned machine on it crashed in corner but when I hit the Reset and Esc. button on controller it cleared and worked correctly.
