Question about the Text tool

It’s the first time I’ve used the text tool where I’ve actually needed to work to a specific size of text, which is where the question comes in… How do we know what size the text is? Yes we get a number to indicate size, but is that number pixels, mm, inches? It would be useful if that could be added alongside the box that contains the number. Thanks in advance for your answers.

Hi Brian, the numbers in the font box are font sizes and are specified program-wide in the same way.
When I need a text box size, I convert the text to shapes, then I get the measurements in mm for this text field. The disadvantage is that once text is converted, it cannot be changed again, i.e. it can no longer be treated as text.

When I need to fit text to a space, usually to maximize the size of the text, I draw a frame around the area then fit the text to the box.

Per the doc:

Height sets the overall height of text. Height varies based on your selected font, and is not exact — it is generally the height of a capital letter X in the font, but every font has an internal size that is scaled by this Height, and the dimensions aren’t required to be accurate.

As with all the other dimensions in the UI, the numeric value is in either inches or millimeters according to the Units and Grids setting in Edit → Settings.

Lightburn text is not drawn or shown in “points” (font size). It is in mm and you can use a calculator to do the conversion.

A 72-point “A” is 1" in height, or 25.4mm. You should be able to calculate other font sizes from this.

Me too.
I feel it’s the best way to make the text exactly the size needed.
