Question on TRACE function

Does the type of imported image have a bearing on the ability to trace it in LB?
I took a picture on my phone, emailed it to my computer and imported it into Inkscape.
I then saved it as an SVG in Inkscape. From there I imported the SVG into LB. But LB will not give me the option to trace the image, I know it is something I am missing but I can’t figure it out. Any help would be much appreciated.

You can’t trace an svg file. It’s already a vector, which is what tracing does. Tracing turns a bitmap into a vector.

So in order to trace an image it must not be an SVG? I would assume that bitmap would be a logical choice then?

There’s a bit more nuance to this. While SVG files are most often associated with vector graphics SVG is capable of embedding bitmap graphics which is likely what OP has done. Embedded graphics in SVG files should import into LightBurn without issue.

After import, you should be able to trace the embedded graphics.

What specific issue are you having with the Trace process? Can you attach a screenshot of what you’re facing?

Also, incidentally, LightBurn can import many bitmap formats directly. Meaning instead of using Inkscape as an intermediary you likely could have imported the photo directly into LightBurn without going through Inkscape.

Thanks B, I realized that I could import the image straight to LB as a bitmap image. That took care of the problem and I was able to trace and edit the image successfully. I appreciate the quick responses from you and thelmuth.
