I tried the most extensive nesting setting and it would go to 10 pcs, then continue on instead of moving to the next, in the first page. Final result was 3 pages no matter what I tried.
The Nest, Quick Nest button immediately put 13 shapes in the first box and 11 in the second. If I had tried this out first, I would not even have tried the True Nest button.
These are basic shapes. surely somebody will test with complex shapes. Curious how that will turn out.
Moral of the story: Try all the options and use the best one for your application. And hope @JohnJohn sends this to the programmers for analysis.
I was curious on how it would handle complex shapes, so I ran a test.
I did my best manual nesting and got 21 pcs to fit. I was pretty proud of myself! Then I tried True Nesting with the settings in the first image. It had 24 objects to manage. As you can see, it was True Nest 1, Mikey 0.
Then I added 6 more objects to see how it would respond, same nesting settings. I have no idea why it only got 22 in the first page when it easily got 24 in there (quickly) the first time. Anyhow, Round #2, True Nest 2, Mikey 0.
It took me about 20 minutes of work to fit 21 pieces manually. If it is blazingly fast when there are no left over pieces from Page #1, then I am going to:
Start with the # of pieces that likely fit on one page.
If it generates only one page, then add one piece and run again.
Repeat until it does spit out Page #2.
Subtract one and save that Page #1 to a safeplace (CTRL-C/V to another Instance of MillMage).
Delete the pieces in Page #1.
With the leftover pieces, start a NEW Page #1.
If you have more pieces than will fit on the page, you know this is your page #2. Delete that many pieces again, and duplicate the saved Page #1.
Repeat until you run out of pieces.
No, the True Nest is not perfect but we can still make it perform for us.
That is my story and I am sticking to it!
.
Footnote: My save to place is Lightburn. 100% of my nesting needs are there. This will do until it migrates to Lightburn.
Yes, I noticed that too. It would peak out then settle for less on the first Page. Almost like it figures there are leftovers anyhow, so why worry about it.
